Understanding the Difference: Automatic vs. Manual Swiss Watches

An automatic movement is an all mechanical watch that requires no winding because the rotor (part of the automatic mechanism) winds the mainspring by the movement of the wearer's arm.

A hand-wound mechanical watch requires winding of the rotor but otherwise functions similarly to an automatic.

Most mechanical movements are accurate within one minute each day and have reserve power when not worn of at least 24 hours.

On November 2nd, Jerry Seinfeld's new flick, "Bee Movie," hits the big screen but it's unlikely that the lead character he voices, a bee, will be wearing a Breitling. Seinfeld wore the iconic brand throughout the nine-season run (1989-1998) of his  self-titled hit series, Seinfeld. He’s a big fan of Breitling and has made numerous promotional appearances on their behalf.

OJ's 'Swiss Watch' Is Fake Rolex

Disgraced former gridiron football star and Hollywood celebrity OJ Simpson had his watch seized by a court order, only for it to be judged worthless and returned, according to news reports Saturday.

After his criminal acquittal in the 1994 murders of his ex-wife and her acquaintance in Los Angles, Simpson was sued in civil court and found liable for their stabbing deaths.

As part of a civil court judgement against him, the watch, thought to be worth $22,000, was to be given to the Goldman family.

But David Cook, the family's lawyer, said he had a suspicion about the Rolex Submariner's authenticity when he passed through airport security after collecting it and the metal detector did not go off. He took the timepiece to a jeweller who confirmed his suspicions.

"It was made by the finest craftsmen in China," he told the Los Angeles Times. "It's a people's Rolex."

Swiss Army Opens New North American Headquarters

The new North American corporate headquarters of Victorinox Swiss Army, Inc. was officially opened Oct. 1 in Monroe, Conn. The facility, which has some 200 employees, is both the official North American headquarters and the official distribution center of Victorinox Swiss Army timepieces, multi-tools, and men’s and women’s apparel. It's also a timepiece and multi-tool repair center.
